Disorders of the Wrist 

Radial club hand 

  Absence  of  whole  or part  of  radius 
  Hand  is  in  radial  deviation 
  Isolated  or  associated  other  anomalies  (cardiac,  blood,  vertebral,  GI) 
  Rx  :  manipulation  +  splintage surgery 

Madelung deformity 

  Congenital  or  posttraumatic 
  Lower  radius  curves  forward &  medially 
  Rx  :  if  function  affected  



  osteotomy

Kienbock Disease 

  =  crushing  osteochondritis  of  lunate 
  It  is  AVN  of  lunate 
  Cause  :  unknown 
  May  be  :  relatively  short  ulna 
  CF:  wrist  pain  &  weak  grip 
  XR:  



  bone  density 

o  collapse 
o  OA 

  Rx :  splintage 

o  shortening  of  radius 
o  arthrodesis 

De Quervain`s Disease 

o  Tenosynovitis  of the  compartment  of  APL  

&  EPB 

o  Cause :  overuse 
o  CF :  middle  aged  female 
o  pain  &  swelling  over  radial  styloid 
o  Finkelstein  t. 
o  Rx  :  NSAIDS 

o  steroid  injection 
o  surgery

Ganglion 

  Commonest  swelling  in  the  wrist 
  Pathology  :  myxoid  degeneration  in  a  ligament  or  capsule 
  It  is  a  cyst  that  contains  mucoid  material 
  CF :  painless  swelling 

  Rx  :  removal  if  troublesome  or  unsighty 
  Recurrence  is  common
